NASA, Space, and Our Nation's Future
Many people in the United States complain or criticize the use of taxpayer funds for space research and space programs in general. For some reason they can't see it as an important investment in the future of not only the United States of America, but the human race.
Numerous hi tech inventions are the direct and indirect result of research stimulated by the 'Space Race' of the 1950's and 1960's. The technological advances developed to allow man to travel not only to the edge of the atmosphere but into outer space itself are in use every day. Transistors, solar power panels, microelectronics, propulsion systems, batteries, hi-tech materials, GPS (Global Positioning System), etc... were all related in some way to the space program.
Developing the technology necessary to allow humans to travel to other planets in our solar system and eventually to solar systems around distant stars will have multiple tangible and intangible benefits for the ECONOMY, ADVANCEMENT of SCIENTIFIC research, and TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS in the United States.
